AbstractAbstract
[en] Some issues related to the vacuum geometry of strings are raised and discussed. In particular, we stress the role of conformal and Weyl invariance as a consistency requirement for formulating string dynamics in curved space. The case of the compact group is discussed in some detail. The current algebra representation which is obtained is equivalent to the Frenkel-Kac construction for the k=1 level of the Kac-Moody algebra. (author)
