AbstractAbstract
[en] The main objective of the project was the geological and seismological characterization of 230 Km2 along the coastal region between the Barro Branco and Jureia massifs in order to pinpoint one or more local areas showing adequate geological, morphological and geotechnical conditions suitable for construction of nuclear power plants. Results of the investigations, as well as the methodology used for determination of main interesting areas are presented. The best areas for construction are believed to be situated along the coast where Precambrian basement rocks crop out close to the shoreline. The Tertiary-Quaternary sedimentary cover reaches a thickness of 50 or more meters and the character of the sediments does not allow direct emplacement of foundations for heavy-weight constructions. Historical analysis of seismic activity of the region, as well as the study of faults and fracture zones identified in the area demonstrate the absence of active faults such as defined by internationally accepted safety criteria. O objetico principal deste trabalho foi a caracterizacao geologica e sismologica de 230 Km2 ao longo da regiao litoranea entre os macicos de Barro Branco e Jureia visando a identificacao de uma ou mais regioes com caracteristicas geologicas, geotecnicas e morfologicas, adequadas a implantacao de usinas nucleoeletricas. Os resultados das investigacoes, assim como a metodologia aplicada na determinacao das areas de maior interesse, sao apresentadas. As melhores regioes para a construcao e implantacao encontram-se ao longo do litoral onde o embasamento Precambriano aflora nas proximidades do mar. A cobertura sedimentar Terciaria-Quaternaria apresenta uma espessura de 50 ou mais metros e suas caracteristicas nao permitem a implantacao direta de fundacoes para edificios de porte. A analise de evidencias historicas das atividades sismicas na regiao, juntamente com o estudo de falhamentos e zonas de fraturas identificadas na area, demonstram a ausencia de falhamentos ativos, como determinam os criterios internacionais de seguranca.
