AbstractAbstract
[en] The high selectivity of 201 MeV inelastic proton scattering at forward angles for exciting ΔL = 0 spin flip transitions is outlined by comparison with (e,e') and 65 MeV (p,p') measurements. A summary of the results obtained on the calcium isotopes, the N = 28 isotones, 88Sr and 90Zr is presented. The differences in the relative M1 strength distributions between the (p,p') and the (e,e') results are discussed. Preliminary results on 208Pb are given; the ''isoscalar'' 1+ state at 5.846 MeV is excited
