AbstractAbstract
[en] In summary, the case has been described of a 27-year-old black woman with sickle cell anemia who presented with arthralgia of the left elbow. The initial radiological studies were normal except for a synovial effusion. Subsequent films showed periosteal reaction and cortical erosion of the humerus just above the elbow, with an increase in the amount of synovial fluid. The diagnosis of acute leukemia was not established until a peripheral blood smear was indicative of the presence of leukemia, and aspiration of the bone marrow three days before death was confirmatory.
