[en] Concerning the front end of the Federal German Republic's fuel cycle it can be stated: The necessary steps to secure the supply of uranium have been taken. U-235 enrichment by centrifuge technology has been successfully demonstrated both technically and commercially. Cooperation within the Urenco company is good. The fuel element production facilities are efficient and capable of delivering all the fuel elements for the various types of reactors. The design and quality of the fuel elements is excellent, as demonstrated by low defect rates, the burn-up values achieved and pin lifetime. The fabrication technology for the various fuel elements fulfils the required specifications. Quality control methods and quality assurance procedures are sufficient to allow inspection and to describe the final quality of the products
