[en] Magnetic resonance imaging was performed before and after intravenous administration of gadolinium-DTPA (Gd-DTPA) in 9 patients with intracranial tumors (8) and a spinal tumor (1). In this study IR (2100/600) and short SE (600/40) were used. After administration of Gd-DTPA, signal intensity of tumors increased in all cases. Contrast enhanced MRI with Gd-DTPA was useful in metastatic brain tumor, cerebeller astrocytoma and glioblastoma to differentiate the tumor from edema. Since meningiomas were clearly demonstrated and differentiated from edema. Gd-DTPA seems to be not required for the diagnosis of meningiomas. No severe side effect were encountered after injection of Gd-DTPA. (author)
