AbstractAbstract
[en] In summary, an unusual case of bronchial carcinoid, metastatic to bone, resulting in endosteal cortical scalloping, is reported. The radiological features of metastatic disease from both bronchial carcinoid and gastrointestinal carcinoid were discussed with emphasis on the fact that most metastases of the skeleton from bronchial carcinoid are osteoblastic in nature, in contrast with gastrointestinal carcinoid which rarely metastasizes to bones. However, when skeletal metastases do develop from carcinoids of the GI tract, these metastases are principally lytic - a fact belied in this case. The unusual appearance of this metastatic lesion in the left femur, consisting particularly of an elongated lytic area in the medullary cavity with considerable endosteal scalloping, is most unusual for metastasis. In fact, the lesion most closely simulated a chondrosarcoma. (orig.)
