AbstractAbstract
[en] Nuclear station personnel at Ontario Hydro in Canada train to handle their own radiological protection. This is in contrast to US plants, where health physics technicians provide coverage for personnel. Workers with the responsibility of providing their own protection are better able to identify ways to minimize exposure. A description of the management and benefits of do-it-yourself practices at Ontario Hydro's Pickering station with its eight CANDU units covers personnel qualification levels, training procedures, and management philosophy. 2 figures
