AbstractAbstract
[en] This paper discusses a range of issues which, in recent years, have alarmed some members of the general public about the use of fast reactors. The emotional question of the ''plutonium economy'' is considered. Some of the social objections to the fast reactor fall into one or all of these are: fast reactors are too expensive; fast reactors produce nuclear waste; the use of plutonium opens the possibility of terrorist group stealing it; difficult security measures needed to protect the plutonium may limit civil liverties; the use of plutonium worldwide may assist in nuclear weapons proliferation; and the sophistication of fast reactors may not provide energy for developing countries. All the objections and concerns listed are addressed
