[en] We report on the production of protective films using a mixed technique of thermal deposition and (simultaneous) ion implantation on metallic surfaces. A cylindrical implanter working up to 30 keV and 1 mA was used with cylindrical steel or aluminium samples of 100 cm² area. Titanium based coatings on SS 304 were obtained through titanium evaporation and nitrogen implantation. Measurements of tribological properties indicate significant improvements especially for adhesion. Depth-profiling with Auger electron spectroscopy revealed O and C contamination of the TiNsub(x) films. (author)
