AbstractAbstract
[en] The nuclide 18F is used for positron emission tomography and is of increasing importance in medical diagnosis. Due to its half life of 110 minutes, a long distance transport is not possible. Usually 18F is produced by a cyclotron. It can also be produced in a nuclear reactor, however the reactor-18F is contaminated mainly with lithium and tritium. This paper describes a new separation method for 18F from the target matrix. 18F is converted to fluorotrimethylsilane, a gas, which is separated from the impurities and then hydrolized to fluorides. This 'reactor-18F' was used to synthesize some of the important radiopharmaceuticals and their precursors like 18F-tetraethylammoniumfluoride, F-18-kryptofix 222 and 18F-2-deoxy-2-fluoro-glucose. It could be shown, that this way of preparation is a good alternative to the production with a cyclotron. (P.W.)
