[en] Structural steels of different classes melted in laboratory and industrial conditions (high-frequency, electric arc, open-hearth furnaces) using the products of direct iron reduction (DIR): metallized pellets, sponge iron, etc. are investigated. It is shown, that the use of DIR products during charge melting ensures a high purity of metals as to regular and occasional impurities, that results in the improvement of producibility and the main qualitative characteristics, according to which the reliability and durability of products and structures produced of the steels are assessed
