[en] A gas proportional counter with a ring anticoincidence shield has been designed in this laboratory. The effective volume of the counter is 1.0 litre with the background 10 cpm and the efficiency more than 90%. The proportional counter is designed to withhold pressures up to 3 atm at STP and the future design modifications will ensure that a pressure is expected to be within 4-6 atm. The voltage plateau, using pure C2H2, extends over a range of 600 V with a slope less than 1%/100 V
