AbstractAbstract
[en] The production of radionuclides in rock formations is controlled by the neutron flux originating from nuclear reactions initiated by α-particles and cosmic muons and from spontaneous fission of U and Th. A way of determinating neutron production in rocks is presented and some experimental data are compared with theoretical calculations. The possible underground production of radioisotopes already used in or proposed for groundwater ''dating'' (3H, 14C, 39Ar, 32Si, 36Cl, 81Kr, 85Kr, 129I), is also discussed. (author)
