AbstractAbstract
[en] The US Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) continues to support research leading to resolutions of generic safety issues (GSIs) that have been identified by its management systems. In one research effort, the Idaho National Engineering Laboratory (INEL) developed personal computer-based programs capable of assisting in GSI resolutions. These programs provide a low cost, standard means of performing probabilistic risk assessment (PRA) calculations, which determine the values (e.g., the averted risks) of proposed GSI resolutions. In conjunction with the development of these computer programs, INEL has researched the limitations of PRA analysis for evaluating GSIs. This research consisted of performing an issue by issue review of each GSI that has been identified by the NRC, in order to provide answers to a list of standard questions concerning each GSI. 3 refs., 4 figs
