AbstractAbstract
[en] This report presents data and interpretations from the Phase II Chemical Soil Investigation at the Weldon Spring Chemical Plant/Raffinate Pits. This investigation was performed to provide data in support of the Remedial Investigation and Baseline Risk Assessment. The investigation consisted of both biased and unbiased sampling programs designed to detect contamination from previous operations. Very small amounts of nitroaromatic compound contamination were detected in former ordnance production areas. Metals and inorganic anion contamination was observed in numerous locations related to both explosives and uranium production. Small amounts of semi-volatile organic, pesticide, and PCB contamination were also detected. No volatile organic contamination was observed. The data collected in this investigation was of sufficient quality and quantity to characterize the on-site chemical soil contamination. Additional investigations may be required to support remedial design. 14 refs., 3 figs., 8 tabs
