AbstractAbstract
[en] We have constructed and tested, a prototype preshower detector using ribbons composed of 0.5 mm diameter scintillating fibers sandwiched between 1/4 radiation length sheets of lead. By sampling the early development of showers with fine spacial segmentation, both transversely and in depth, the synchrotron radiation from electrons traversing a 2.5 Tesla, 1.75 meter bending magnet is detected. Data has been collected for electron showers up to 200 GeV with and without the synchrotron bending magnet. This paper presents results for the synchrotron radiation signal, the position resolution of electromagnetic showers, and estimates of the minimum shower separation
