[en] In 1988 a licence for operation of the final disposal facility for reactor waste, SFR, was given by the Swedish authorities. The SFR has been designed to make possible a simple and controllable as well as a safe disposal of the low-and intermediate level radioactive material arising from the operation and maintenance of the Nuclear power plants in Sweden. The safety of the repository has been assessed based on scenarios and models selected in a reasonably pessimistic way. The calculations show that the release can be expected to be well below the radiation protection limits. A further safety evaluation will be required before a permission for sealing is given. 2 figs
