[en] This paper describes the status and outlook of different solar photovoltaic power generation technologies and resources. Technical characteristics of solar photovoltaic systems are discussed. Also treated are environmental impacts and costs of solar photovoltaic generating technology which are expected to be available between now and the year 2020. Some institutional and other barriers are pointed out which might delay the deployment of solar photovoltaic power generating systems. Finally, recommendations of technology development priorities and the need and opportunities for international cooperation is stressed. (author). 26 refs, 2 figs, 3 tabs
