AbstractAbstract
[en] We explore the possibility of performing precision electroweak measurements at the SSC and LHC in the case that no new resonances appear below 1 TeV. In particular, we use a chiral lagrangian framework to analyze the expected leading corrections to the three gauge boson vertices from loop effects in the symmetry breaking sector. These particular corrections have not been included in previous chiral-lagrangian-based analyses of gauge boson pair production at hadron colliders. By considering the production of W±Z and W±γ final states in pp colliders at √s = 40 TeV and 17 TeV, we show that it is possible to probe chiral lagrangian parameters which the low-energy analysis of 'oblique' corrections does not address. For the case of WZ production, we also compare these new loop contributions to qanti q annihilation with the tree-level contributions from vector-boson fusion. The new contributions clearly dominate at collider energies, for an interesting class of models of electroweak symmetry breaking. This indicates that those previous estimates of the SSC's ability to probe the symmetry breaking sector which included only the fusion contributions were too pessimistic. (orig.)
