AbstractAbstract
[en] The Sizewell B nuclear power station is scheduled for completion in 1994. The system, originally intended to be the heart of the control and instrumentation for the station, ran into development problems. In June 1991 a late decision was made to switch to an alternative system in order to keep with the completion date. The original system was to have been supplied by the French to be the same as that which was due to be installed at the 1400MW Chooz R nuclear power plant. Instead the contract has now been given to Westinghouse Electric Company which was already supplying the steam supply system and the reactor protection and instrumentation systems. Westinghouse will provide an integrated system for centralized operation which will consist of a high integrity control system, a process control system and a distributed computer system. These are outlined briefly and a schematics for the process control system and computer architecture are given. (UK)
