AbstractAbstract
[en] A series of neutron noise methods to measure the reactor kinetic parameters of the PROTEA 2 experimental reactor were investigated. In the time domain the Rossi-α, Feynman variance and correlation methods are discussed. In the frequency domain the spectral density experimental technique was used. The theoretical background to these investigations is set out, the experimental facility and set-up is discussed and results from the different methods are presented. The methods investigated are compared with respect to their accuracy and applicability. The reactor kinetic parameters α and l could be measured with reasonable accuracy, whilst the fission rate was found to be subject to rather unsatisfactory error margins. In general the method of measuring these parameters at PROTEA 2 by means of neutron noise analysis was found to be applicable, safe and relatively easy to use, while giving acceptable results. 33 figs., 26 tabs., 30 refs
