[en] The contribution is based to a great extent on the comprehensive report of the Radiation Protection Commission on the 'Impacts of the reactor accident in Chernobyl' on the Federal Republic of Germany. There is another detailed report meanwhile by the Federal Office for Radiation Protection on the radiation exposure of the population of the Federal Republic of Germany following the Chernobyl accident. Dealt with are the accident scenario, activity release, atmospheric transport of released activity, activity concentrations in air, soil and water in the Federal Republic of Germany, radiation exposure of the German population and appropriate evaluations, and radiation exposure and effects on health in the Soviet Union. Der Beitrag beruht in weiten Teilen auf dem zusammenfassenden Bericht der Strahlenschutzkommission zu den 'Auswirkungen des Reaktorunfalls im Kernkraftwerk Tschernobyl' auf die Bundesrepublik Deutschland. Zwischenzeitlich erschien ein weiterer ausfuehrlicher Bericht des Bundesamtes fuer Strahlenschutz zur Strahlenexposition der Bevoelkerung der Bundesrepublik Deutschland nach dem Unfall im Kernkraftwerk Tschernobyl. Eroertert werden insbesondere der Ablauf des Unfalls und der Aktivitaetsfreisetzung, die atmosphaerische Verfrachtung der freigesetzten Aktivitaet, Aktivitaetskonzentrationen in Umweltbereichen in der Bundesrepublik, Strahlenexposition der deutschen Bevoelkerung und deren Bewertung sowie Strahlenexposition und gesundheitliche Auswirkungen in der Sowjetunion.
