[en] Hospital haematology services will benefit from a new radioassay kit from Ciba Corning which simultaneously measures vitamin B12 and folic acid in patients' blood samples. A comparison was undertaken between the new kit and the one currently being used at Hemel Hempstead Hospital in Hertfordshire both of which used the competitive binding inhibition principle. Provided certain rigid protocols are observed the performance and cost-effectiveness of the kit has proved satisfactory. (UK)
