AbstractAbstract
[en] This paper proposes the construction of a solar neutrino observatory utilizing 1000 tonnes of D2O in a nickel mine near Sudbury. The rationale for such an observatory, the characteristics of the detector and its sensitivity are discussed. Recent progress in resolving some of the problems in the construction and operation of the detector are outlined. Technical measurements and engineering designs are in progress with a view to preparing detailed cost estimates
