AbstractAbstract
[en] Single crystals and powder samples of HIO3/DIO3 x-/γ-irradiated at room temperature or at 77K and allowed to warm upto room temperature, give esr spectra characteristic of the 27-electron radical (HIO3- or H(H+)IO3-). The unpaired electron is predominantly delocalised over the iodine and oxygen atoms. The possible structure of the radiacal is discussed and radiation damage mechanism involved is proposed.
