AbstractAbstract
[en] Radon-222 is a member of the uranium decay chain and is formed from the decay of radium-226. Once radon is formed in the soil, it can move through the soil to reach the atmosphere. Radon and its decay products emit alpha particles during the decay process. Alpha particles emitted from inhaled radon and its daughters increase the risk of lung cancer. Radon enters a house from soil gas through the basement floor and walls and from water. It has been estimated that about 10% of all homes in the United States have radon levels exceeding the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) corrective action level of 4 pCi/L of radon in indoor air. Above this level, radon in indoor air may be a serious health risk
