AbstractAbstract
[en] Recent developments in superstring phenomenology are summarized on a nontechnical level. It is shown how non perturbative approach can evade the arising problems. Some recent progress is indicated in computing the low energy effective Lagrangian. Furthermore, by including threshold corrections of the gauge couplings into the non-perturbative effective potential, one is able to fix the dilation vacuum expectation value at a phenomenologically acceptable value.
