[en] Concern has been expressed in many quarters over the possible health and environmental implications of the dumping of high level radioactive wastes in the shallow waters of the Kara Sea and of other radioactive wastes in neighbouring seas. IAEA has responded to this concern firstly by participating in the Norwegian-Russian experimental programme of preliminary assessment and secondly by coordinating and contributing to a longer term international action plan.
