AbstractAbstract
[en] Concerns are expressed about the direction and priorities of modern medicine. While CAT scanners, radioactive isotope scans and ultrasound can locate exactly where the cancer is and whether it has spread, or allow to see biochemical changes in the brain, some skepticism exists in the community about those technologies and their real benefit for the patients. The Positron Emission Tomography (PET) research program is presented as symbol of these diverging attitudes on health priorities. While a lot of money is being poured into it, other medical services are cut and waiting lists grow longer.
