[en] Increase in world oil prices makes it imperative that India should have an energy conservation programme in all sectors of the national economy. Such a programme will reduce the import burden and will make the optimal use of available resources. Scope for conservation in power sector and transport sector is described. Energy conservation in domestic sector can be achieved through production of energy efficient electrical gadjetry and equipment. Indian industries consume more energy than international standards. Scope for energy conservation in this sector is estimated at 5250 MW. (M.G.B.)
