AbstractAbstract
[en] Fermilab fixed target experiment E706 is a study of high transverse momentum (pT) direct-photon events produced in hadronic interactions. During the 1990 and 1991 runs, E706 accumulated a total of ∼ 30 pb-1 of data using 530 GeV/c protons and pions, and 800 GeV/c protons, incident on Cu, Be and Hydrogen targets. The experiment was triggered on high transverse momentum showers detected in the electromagnetic section of a large liquid argon calorimeter. The present analysis utilizes 500 GeV/c π- and p on Be data. Inclusive cross sections for direct photon and neutral pion production are presented and compared to theoretical predictions.
