AbstractAbstract
[en] Adsorption of microamounts of Sr(II) from aqueous solutions of strontium nitrate on manganese dioxide has been investigated and optimised as a function of contact time, sorbate concentration and temperature. The adsorption equilibrium is achieved quickly in about 15 mins. The kinetics is found to be first order and the system obeys the Freundlich adsorption isotherm over a wide range of Sr(II) concentration (10-3-10-7M). The uptake of strontium ion is found to be endothermic and increasing with temperature between 303 and 333 K. The heat of adsorption is estimated to be 12.1 kj/mol which suggests that the process is ion-exchange type. (author). 14 refs., 1 fig
