AbstractAbstract
[en] X-Ray diffraction analysis of α-TiI4 monocrystal (a 13.218(3), b = 8.075(2), c = 6.859(1) A, β = 90.65(2) deg, sp. gr. C2/c) showed, that TiI4/2I2 octahedron chains, connected by non-opposite ribs, were present in the structure. Decrease of Ti crystal number from 6 to 4 with formation of SnI4 type molecular structure, takes place during phase transformation (114 deg C) α-TiI4 -> β-TiI4, accompanied by 20% decrease of density. Kinetic difficulties of inverse transformation β-α are explained by necessity of rearrangement of iodine atom packing from cubic (ABC) to hexagonal one (AB)
