AbstractAbstract
[en] It was investigated the environment and the time dependence of the Vickers microhardness of monoclinic zirconia single-crystals. The samples were kept at room temperature and the identifications were performed for different environments (air, toluene and water). An indentation creep process was observed for the samples indented is moist media, indicating for a water activated plastic relaxation mechanism. The possible influence of such effect in the fatigue and phase transformations mechanisms of zirconia based ceramics is discussed. (author)
