AbstractAbstract
[en] The winterschool aimed at introducing young physicists, mainly from the Nordic countries and with some affiliation to nuclear physics, to current ideas about nuclear structure and nuclear reactions. The interplay between nuclear reactions and nuclear structure formed a central theme for a major part of the activity. Many of the topics were covered by a collaborating pair of lecturers. Dasso and Vaagen gave introduction to surface excitations and nucleon-transfer in heavy-ion induced quasi-elastic and deeply inelastic collisions, with a pedagogical and rather pedestrian reminder on simple classical aspects and concepts related to collision phenomena. In a consecutive set of lectures Randrup gave a rather comprehensive description of transport theory for damped nuclear reactions. Further elucidation of medium-energy and reactions at higher energy were given by Bondorf (notes not included). The reaction program was rounded off by a discussion by Strottman on hydrodynamical and relativistic heavy-ion collision. Various developments in nuclear structure of current interest were presented. While Lipas discussed the basis for and implication of the interacting boson model, Kuo and Osnes gave a detailed introduction to microscopic nuclear structure theory with emphasis on giant resonances. Blomqvist discussed two topics--the new developments on collective Gamow-Teller transitions (notes not included) and a survey of the shell model applied to the 146GD region. A status report on the particle-rotor model, including the most recent developments, was presented by Engeland. Spectroscopy for fast spinning nuclei formed the theme for the lectures given by Bengtsson and Garrett. Separate abstracts were prepared for the ten chapters of the book
