[en] MR imaging with spin echo (SE) and short TI IR (STIR) sequences was performed prospectively on 35 solitary pulmonary nodules (SPNs). On T2-weighted images, 30 lesions showed similarly high signal intensity. On STIR images, 18 cases (86%) of 21 lung cancers revealed very high signal intensity. Other lesions, which are the most common lesions and are often difficult to differentiate from lung cancer, showed low signal intensity. Evaluation of signal intensity of SPN with STIR sequence provides additional information in differential diagnosis of benign nodules from lung cancer. (author)
