AbstractAbstract
[en] The authors determined the energy and coordinate resolution of nonsegmented layered uranium calorimeters with scintillator cross-sections of 40 x 20 and 15 x 15 cm. The experimental data are compared with the results of a computer simulation by the GEANT3.13 program. The results are in good agreement with analytical predictions for a calorimeter with uranium plate thicknesses of 0.5 and 0.2 cm. The energy resolution for electrons with a momentum of 26.6 GeV/c amounts to 4.8 and 3.0 ± 0.05%, respectively; the accuracy of the input-coordinate measurement of a primary particle is better than 1 cm. It was concluded that nonsegmented calorimeters with large cross-sections can be used in physical experiments
