AbstractAbstract
[en] The 220 MW (e) nuclear power stations at Rajasthan and Kaiga are the fore-runners of standard advanced 220 MW (e) Indian Pressurized Heavy Water Reactors (PHWRs). In evolving the control systems for these plants, all efforts have been made to introduce state-of-the-art technology, consistent with reliability requirements and proven performance. It is hence felt worthwhile to generate a comprehensive compilation of the whole of control and instrumentation systems for the standardized design of the Advanced Indian PHWRs. This is expected to be of help to the plant personnel as well as regulatory bodies in their review work. The salient instrumentation, control and logic features are covered for all the systems. However, reference must be made to the relevant design manuals, specifications, flow sheets and other system drawings, list of which is given as an annexure to this compendium, for in-depth information on particular systems. The sections dealing with the reactor control and shutdown systems are prepared to be rather more exhaustive than other sections dealing with process instrumentation systems, to stress the unique requirements and features of the pressurized heavy water reactors in control, protection and operation. Details of discrete computer/microprocessor based systems are covered at different sections or along with appropriate systems keeping in view of the trend world over for computerization of nuclear power reactors. Further revisions and improvements would be possible based on responses from interested readers in the form of helpful comments and suggestions. (author). 45 figs., 2 annexures
