AbstractAbstract
[en] The project covers the three main areas of fuel (a designation for that part of the total volume of Danish solid waste that is not re-used and could thus be utilized as fuel for energy production) waste combustion and gasification of wastes. The expected volume and nature of solid wastes in Denmark up to 2000 is described and the wastes' suitability for gasification is evaluated. Investigations were undertaken of plants for gasification and pyrolysis of biomass in Europe, USA and Canada in order to evaluate technology development there, especially with regard to the use of wastes as fuel. The processes were compared. It was concluded that combustion had the advantage as no commercial waste gasification plants were found in connection with this investigation. Commercial two-stage combustion was examined in USA and Canada. This can compete with combustion plants on the question of price and emission. The authors still consider that gasification, dependent on the extent of financial resources available, could be an important alternative to combustion. (AB) 12 refs
