[en] HADES is a second generation dielectron spectrometer proposed for the SIS accelerator at GSI. It is dedicated to the investigation of in-medium properties of vector mesons and to selected aspects of electromagnetic formfactors of hadrons. It is designed to be operated in high multiplicity events like central Au on Au collisions at 1 GeV/nucleon, but it will also be used for pion and proton induced reactions. The anticipated performance includes a mass resolution of 1% and an acceptance of ∼0.40. First experiments are scheduled for 1998. (orig.)
