AbstractAbstract
[en] Relatively light nucleus W-178 was synthesized by the fusion reaction of F-19 + Tb-159. The multiplicity of proton and α particle produced in the process of fission was determined. The fissility of W-178 was 0.637 indicating the short distance between the saddle point and the separation point. Consequently it was estimated more short time than that of heavier nuclei such as Pb-200, Fr-213, Ra-216, Nb-225 and 236Cm determined previously. To confirm the fact, the experiments were done by Tandem accelerator (JAERI). Two fragments were measured at the same time by a solid state detector (the solid angle 58 msr) and two dimentional position sensitive detector type avalanche detector (10 cm x 10 cm). The data were analyzed by PACE 2, the statistical computer code. The time delay, ι = 0.5 - 1.5 x 10-20 sec, obtained by the experimental data of the charged particle was relatively smaller than 3.5 x 10-20 sec of neutron determined by the same formula. The above results showed that large part of neutrons were emitted between the saddle point and the separation point and the time required between them might be long at the light nucleus W-178 as same as that of heavy nucleus. The fission barrier was 25 MeV of W-178 and 6.9 MeV of Ra-216, about four times larger than that. But the time lago of fission at the saddle point were the same value. So that it may be concluded that the time lag of fission is independent on the fission barrier. (S.Y.)
