AbstractAbstract
[en] We used the multiplicity detectors of the WA98 apparatus for the Disoriented Chiral Condensate search (DDC). We developed a method of event selection based on 2-D wavelet transformation for the search of π0 or π+- clusters. We use also this method for the localization and characterization of clusters in terms of position and internal structure. The wavelet transformation singles out the signal at every scale in coefficients of two types: those corresponding to a signal smoothing and the wavelet coefficients sensible to signal density variations in case of a 2 D point distribution. By summing over the squared values of the last ones at every scale one can build the strength spectrum which is flat for a uniform distribution and the coefficients of which are sensible to cluster size. This spectrum was used to select the most structured candidates. The authors intend to extend this study by correlating different analysis scales as well as photons and charged particle clusters
