[en] This study is directed toward determining the ocular damage thresholds induced by picosecond pulses emitted in the visible spectrum in experiments carried out on the rabbit. The retinal injuries are investigated with a method using fluorescein angiography. The empirical multiple-pulse formula, predicting the exposure limit value per pulse in guidelines, is in good agreement with our data. Thermal mechanism appears to be the major component of the damaging process in the picosecond regime of time. However, shallow slopes of probit curves and small divergences between model and data suggest the involvement of a new damaging mechanism. (authors)
