AbstractAbstract
[en] Complete text of publication follows. The chemical processes proceeding in graphite under the action of tritium recoil atoms generating in the field of reactor irradiation have been studied by the methods of radiochromatography and ESR. Lithium fluoride salt enriched with lithium isotope 6Li served as an external tritium source (reaction 6Li(n, α)T) in one series of experiments and in others - helium isotope - 3He(reaction 3He(n,p)T). It has been established that tritium is implanted inside the graphite and its desorption takes place mainly at 500 deg C and 900 deg C. At annealing temperature less than 1000 deg C a considerable retention of tritium in the graphite is observed. The nature of interaction products of 'hot' as well as of implanted tritium with atoms of carbon of graphite and the dependence of their yield upon the annealing temperature was established. It was shown that the main product of chemical erosion of graphite is radioactive methane formed at tritium implantation into graphite. The following investigations concern the studies of the processes of implanted tritium release and the change of defect structure of graphite. It is shown that there are traps of various nature for tritium in the irradiated graphite. The temperature dependence of the ESR spectrum was measured from 10K to 300K. A ratio of localized (associated with separate implanted atoms and their simpliest complexes) and delocalized (caused by defects in the layer of vacancy type) paramagnetic centers was estimated. Evolution of these paramagnetic centers in the process of postradiation annealing was studied. Experimental results were explained by the exchange coupling model
