AbstractAbstract
[en] Complete text of publication follows. The behavior of polyethylene (PE) under the action of high-energy radiation has now been the subject of exclusive studies for many years. Radiation induced crosslinking is used to improve wear and creep resistance of PE objects and the heat resistance of cable insulators. On the other hand dielectric constant and dielectric loss are reported to exhibit changes under radiation. In general, it is believed that changes in these properties are attributed to the production of ions, permanent dipoles and space charges. In this paper we examine the γ-radiation influence on dielectric properties of low-density polyethylene by using electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) spectroscopy and dielectric spectroscopy. The specimens of both unoriented (λ=1) and oriented (λ=7) low-density polyethylene foils were exposed to γ-radiation integral doses of 100, 300 and 500 kGy. After two month relaxation period room temperature EPR spectra were recorded revealing two peaks on 336.9 mT and 331.3 mT, with intensities significantly varying with radiation doses and orientation. Changes were also observed in a temperature dependent spectra of dielectric loss. These effects are discussed in terms of space-charge formation in PE foils during irradiation processes
