AbstractAbstract
[en] Long-time records of 14C (1960-1998) and 3H (1976-1998) isotopes in the atmosphere at several sites in Croatia and the comparison with similar measurements in the world are discussed. Both 14C and 3H follow the global changes typical for the Northern Hemisphere. 14C activity of the atmospheric CO2, plants and tree-rings collected in the so-called 'cline-air' site Plitvice reflects global distribution of 14C in the atmosphere. Seasonal fluctuations of 14C activity in Zagreb area are a result of fossil fuel combustion in winter time. Global 14C contamination of the atmosphere is also reflected in the 14C activity of dissolved inorganic carbon in surface water as well as in recent lake sediments. Long-time record of 3H in monthly precipitation collected in Zagreb is used as a database for monitoring local contamination as well as for hydrological investigations. 3H activity of tree-rings and old wines has been used for reconstruction of 3H activity in the past. Global 3H contamination of the atmosphere is also reflected in the surface water as well as in old ice deposits. (author)
