AbstractAbstract
[en] It is said by a member of the WWF climate and energy unit that the outcome of the COP 6 (Sixth Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Climate Convention) meeting in The Hague will have 'far-reaching consequences'. It is feared that the Kyoto agreements are under threat because some states will seek loopholes and although complying with the letter of the law they will ignore the spirit of the agreement. Regardless of the outcome of COP 6, it is argued that there is a case for expansion of cogeneration. The article is presented under the sub-headings of (i) threats to a positive outcome (clean development mechanism and joint implementation, emissions trading and other threats) and (ii) a carbon-constrained world. The author believes that the momentum of Kyoto will not be stopped by events at COP 6
