[en] Very recent experimental data suggest the existence of a trinuclear molecular structure before the cold ternary fragmentation of 252 Cf takes place. We present a theoretical prediction which encompasses only the calculation of the half-lives of the α-like trinuclear molecules, the collective modes for the 10 Be-like trinuclear molecules and the shift of the first 2+ state of 10 Be in the quasi-molecular configuration. The calculations predict a polarization of 10 Be, consistent with the observed 6 keV shift, arising in a triangular or linear configuration of the giant molecule. According to the conclusions drawn from molecular life time calculations point, the linear configuration seems to be unlikely. (authors)
