AbstractAbstract
[en] Posiva Oy, owned jointly by Teollisuuden Voima Oy and Imatran Voima Oy, is carrying out a research and development programme in connection with the final disposal of spent uranium fuel originating from Finland's nuclear power stations. The main focus of the current site investigation phase has been the characterization of fracturing and its correlation with hydrology in a volume of bedrock that is possibly suitable for use as a final repository. Hydrological characterization has been performed by using the difference flow method in boreholes to locate hydraulically conductive fractures and to determine hydraulic properties. The transverse flow method has been used to measure the actual flow across a hole after detecting locations suitable for the use of this method. Both methods have also been used together with pumping tests in order to study the properties of flow paths. (author)
